The following quotation from Virginia Satir was often stated in her workshops just as The Five Freedoms shared yesterday were often repeated. These words below inspired me to work toward creating beautiful and loving relationships where everyone involved would be empowered. Therefore, this quotation also added to my desire “to live long and prosper” into Super-Aging.
The “ing” words used below were certainly gleaned from the pained thousands of family interactions Virginia observed and processed. She worked tirelessly with families and groups to end clutching, judging, invading, demanding, blaming, insulting and guilt. May we each end these detriments in our own relationships with awareness, caring, respect and compassion.
HOW I WANT TO RELATE
By Virginia Satir
I want to love you without clutching
Appreciate you without judging
Join you without invading
Invite you without demanding
Leave you without guilt
Criticize you without blaming
And help you without insulting.
If I can have the same from you
Then we can truly meet and enrich each other.
