The Universal Laws of Spiritual Development added vitality to my life. When I ponder these laws there is no room for boredom in my life!
Here is THE LAW OF ATTRACTION, LIKE ATTRACTS LIKE:
“IF WE HAVE CONFUSED THOUGHTS AND HABITS, WE WILL ATTRACT PEOPLE OR A TEACHER OF EQUAL QUALITY. TO ATTRACT A MASTER TEACHER OR A PLEASANT SUPPORTIVE COMMUNITY, WE MUST ALIGN OURSELVES WITH THE STANDARDS, THE IDEALS, THE GOALS AND THE PURPOSES OF THE MASTER OF MASTERS.” Adapted from the ILC manual of 1975 by Ruthann Pippenger
Certainly through the years I have had to deal with the fact that my first husband and spiritual teachers were abusers of drugs or alcohol or people. I attracted this lesson of loved ones or admired ones lying or attempting to hide their addictions over and over.
As I read the Al Anon literature and attend meetings I understand this my part of this phenomenon more and more. Thankfully I seem to have let go of much of my side of the pattern. It was also a relief to know when I started to meditate regularly and teach spiritual techniques I didn’t have to contend with those who wanted to abuse me even if ever so subtlety. I just didn’t attract that type any longer.
Regarding choosing a master spiritual teacher, the Tibetan Buddhist advice is: “Choose a spiritual teacher who has a noble record of 12 years.” I’ve never asked a lama about this advised 12 year period. There must be something magical about not falling back into old habits if you have maintained 12 years of solidarity with your purpose of clarity and purity of intention to be of service.
