For me this Water Breath establishes a feeling of relaxation after the earth breath begins the process of entering meditation. Just as water succumbs to gravity by falling downward, so, our breath is downward moving. We breathe in through the nose and breathe out through the mouth.
The 5 Breaths of the Elements are of great service in easily ushering us into a state of meditation without anxiously “trying” to get into a state of meditation.
Here are the directions for doing the Water Breath associated with the second chakra:
Inhale through the nose, exhale through the mouth 5 times with the concentration of enfoldment and/or nurturing of self or others. The color orange or coral can be used here for the second chakra.
Tomorrow I will introduce the Fire Breath. As mentioned yesterday I use a fusion of Polarity Yoga, traditional yogic chakra assignments in the body and Sufi material on the Breaths of the 5 Elements.
