Day 170: Enjoy 5 to 9 Different Fruits & Vegetables a Day. Choose a Variety of Colors to Pick up Many Nutrients

“With every meal we are fueling disease or feeding our health.”  Marcos Borges

I agree with this quote by Marcos Borges. He is the current dietitian to Beyoncé and Jay-Z.  If we take the time to examine our energy status and emotional status after each meal, we can notice the foods that enhance our health or cause dis-ease/discomfort in the body and mind.

It is obvious to me at the end of the day if I have eaten 7 to 9 different colored fruits and vegetables. When I do this I feel vibrant, invigorated and younger. I attempt to include a rainbow of veggies and not just the “greens”. Because I gain weight so quickly, I eat more berries than other fruits that are higher on the glycemic index.  My freezer always has a large bag of blueberries, raspberries, strawberries and black berries in it for the emergencies when I’ve forgotten to shop.

Unfortunately or fortunately I have discovered that some restaurants fuel disease in my body. There are several restaurants where I refuse to eat because I suffer from water retention and inflammation for three to four days after consuming just one meal.
