If we are lucky enough to live a vigorous, exciting, interesting, healthy life with longevity it is necessary to conquer the self. When I started this project I would not have used the phrase to “conquer the self.” And as the year and the postings have gone on—there is no other explanation.
I doubt that anyone lives to a ripe old age without making many good choices daily.
This week I have been referring to verses from Chapter 8, Thousands from The Dhammapada by Siddhartha Gautama. Verse 4 is eloquent and succinct:
“One may conquer a million men in a single battle;
However, the greatest and best warrior
Conquers himself.”
Let’s recognize and congratulate ourselves for all the times we have been and are conquering ourselves physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually.
